What Is Chiropractic?

There are innate forces within you that are the true healers. These forces control the brain and the spinal cord (your nervous system). The nervous system controls and coordinates everything in the body.

Chiropractic simply wants the nervous system to control and coordinate everything at 100%. We do this by working with the structure of the body. This is because there are extensions of the nervous system (nerve roots) that go between each spinal bone. When those bones are misaligned, they can cause inflammation at those nerve roots. This would give impaired function wherever that nerve goes to.

It is like hitting your funny bone. You are actually hitting the ulnar nerve in the ulnar groove of the elbow. When you do, you get impaired function wherever that nerve goes to. In this case, you would feel numbness and tingling down your forearm into your hand.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching. This is because your muscles and ligaments are probably not used to being put back in their correct position. If you do get sore, it would be like working out for the first time. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

When discussing the risks of any health care procedure, it is important to look at that risk in comparison to other treatments available for the same condition. In this regard, the risks of serious complications from spinal manipulation for conditions such as neck pain and headache compare very favorably with even the most conservative care options. For example, the risks associated with some of the most common treatments for musculoskeletal pain—over-the-counter or prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and prescription painkillers—are significantly greater than those of chiropractic manipulation.

What is the first visit like?

We are a Concierge Chiropractic Clinic. We show up at your place of residence/business. We set up our Chiropractic table. Dr. Jefferson then does a thorough exam. This includes Vitals, Neurological testing, Orthopedic testing, Reflexes, Range of Motion, and a Chiropractic Analysis that includes Extremities. Dr. Jefferson then performs the adjustments and any Muscle/Soft tissue work needed. If you want, Dr. Jefferson can discuss any Detox/Nutrition to help meet your goals.

We then fold up our table and we are done. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Do you take Insurance?

We do not. But if you have Chiropractic coverage, you can get the necessary documentation to get reimbursed, and we will be glad to fill it out. You just have to be willing to file it yourself.

In fact, when you file the paperwork, you are more likely to get all the benefits to which you are entitled…Just realize your policy won’t pay for all the care your likely to need.

We do not play the insurance game. It’s big business, raking in record profits with bigger premiums, larger deductibles, higher co-pays and lower reimbursement. To avoid becoming a statistic, caught in the middle, you and I have to decide: What is our health worth?

Does Chiropractic Cause Stroke?

The best available scientific evidence supports the understanding that the Chiropractic Adjustment does not cause a dissection in a normal, healthy artery.

The reported association between Chiropractic visits and stroke is exceeding rare and is estimated to be related in 1-2 million cervical adjustments.

Arterial Dissection occurs in 3-4 of every 100,000 people whether they are receiving health care or not. Unfortunately a percentage of these patients will experience a stroke.

750,000 strokes occur in the U.S annually. Strokes arising from dissection of a vertebral artery occur at a rate of 1 per 133,000 persons.

Disease processes, genetic disorders, medications, and vessel abnormalities may cause an artery to be more susceptible to dissection. Strokes caused by arterial dissections have been associated with over 72 everyday activities such as sneezing, driving, and playing tennis.

What is a Dissection?

Tear in the inner layer of the artery that may cause the development of a thrombus (clot) with the potential to lead to a stroke

Are there people out there that are unaware that they are developing a stroke condition, and are under the care of a Chiropractor?

Yes. There are 750,000 strokes that occur in the U.S annually. Strokes arising from dissection of a vertebral artery occur at a rate of 1 per 133,000 population. If there are 315 million people in the U.S, we can expect 2,368 of these strokes to occur each year. If 10% of the U.S population seeks Chiropractic Care annually, then we could anticipate 237 of these strokes to cross the path of a Chiropractor.

If we estimate that there are 65,000 Chiropractors practicing in the U.S., then 1 in 275 Chiropactors may have this situation present in their offices.
